Traceable art catalogue
Identify what you created, when it was uploaded and what licenses or sales occurred.
Do you sell original illustrations, digital artworks or 3D visual assets through Adobe Stock or other marketplaces? Licensing income may be relevant to Japan’s Artist residence status when it arises from genuine professional artistic work. But a stock account, library size or platform sales alone do not guarantee qualification. We help foreign creators document authorship claims accurately, art production, licensing statements, payment flows and a realistic plan for paid artistic activity in Japan.

Identify what you created, when it was uploaded and what licenses or sales occurred.
Separate downloads, gross royalty statements, adjustments and actual transfers.
Explain new series, ongoing artistic practice, projected royalties and permitted main activities.
The Artist residence status is based on income-generating art performed in Japan. Stock visual artwork and royalties can be relevant to professional history and remuneration. However, the platform is only a distribution channel; the immigration inquiry concerns the creator’s real artistic activities, supporting record and proposed future activity.
| Contributor output | How to document it |
|---|---|
| Original illustration | Series, creation dates, works catalogue, active licenses and payments. |
| Digital painting and fine-art image | Evidence of creative practice, presentation and licensing or sale. |
| Artistic 3D stills or models | Truthful modeling/composition contribution and income records. |
| Stock photography | Assess whether principal work is artistic photographic practice or commercial services needing another status. |
| AI-generated stock submissions | Explain AI usage, truthful creative role and platform compliance; AI does not itself establish Artist eligibility. |
| Resold third-party files | Licensing/sales income may not show your own art creation. |
| Record | Key explanation |
|---|---|
| Download / license transaction count | A transaction or download is not necessarily equal to a fixed net cash payout. |
| Platform royalty statement | Royalties credited, adjustment and refund items for the relevant period. |
| Contributor account balance | A balance may be held before actual payment. |
| Payout request or automatic distribution | Separate transfer date, fee and payout processor records. |
| Bank / payment account | Confirm receipt and currency conversion where relevant. |
| Tax / withholding records | Tax reporting amounts can differ from transaction sales or net transfers. |
A creator can earn royalties in 2026 from artworks uploaded years earlier. Such revenue may support a professional history, but passive receipts by themselves do not describe the creative activity that will be performed while living in Japan. Immigration may need to understand actual planned production, publishing and commercialization in Japan.
Historic sales demonstrate some commercial demand but must be dated correctly.
A realistic new art series or publication schedule describes what you intend to do in Japan.
Explain future revenue using actual past results and genuine planned production; avoid arbitrary growth assumptions.
A large stock collection can contain images with different creative histories. Work that is autonomously generated through a tool, manually illustrated art, heavily edited compositions and purchased stock assets need different factual descriptions. Japanese copyright guidance is a separate question from Artist residence eligibility.
| Case | Information to clarify |
|---|---|
| Fully original hand-illustrated series | Artistic concept, creation, sales history and future practice. |
| AI-supported illustration collections | Actual human creative role, editorial work and how the final visual expression was developed. |
| Bulk generative output with little editing | Do not assume volume or downloads alone proves qualifying individual artistry. |
| Other creators’ resources and licensed assets | Document authorized rights and avoid misrepresenting origin. |
| Main work | Immigration issue |
|---|---|
| Independent original fine-art production with licensing royalties | Artist may be considered if genuine paid art and activity history are shown. |
| Contracted marketing or graphic design with Japanese employer | Engineer / Specialist may be relevant depending on contract and duties. |
| Managing a company or marketplace seller operation | Business Manager may need to be evaluated. |
| Working only remotely under a separate temporary rule | Digital Nomad may be different if its conditions are met. |
| Reselling other designers’ assets without creating art | Not automatically a personal artistic activity. |
| Official application evidence | Marketplace-related support |
|---|---|
| Independent artist statement | Japan activity contents, period and reasonable anticipated art income. |
| Contracted art arrangement | Artistic activity, compensation and term in the signed documentation. |
| Artistic career and achievements | Actual CV, representative works catalogue, reviews/awards where relevant. |
| Financial records | Royalty statements, genuine payouts and receipts linked to art. |
| For extension | Continue art work and provide required local resident-tax income/payment certificates. |
Official Artist forms, identity documents, translations and procedure-specific evidence are necessary. Immigration may request additional information; supporting marketplace screenshots alone are not a complete application.

Historic royalties alone do not prove intended remunerated art activity in Japan.
Potentially, if their actual main work is qualifying remunerated artistic production, supported by works and realistic activities in Japan.
No separate residence status with that name. Artist may be relevant but depends on facts.
No universal quantity requirement appears in the official Artist status document list.
Asset count alone cannot establish immigration eligibility. Real artistic work, history and planned Japan-based activity must also be assessed.
They may provide earnings history, but alone do not prove your intended future art activity in Japan.
A Japanese platform is not categorically required. Foreign platforms and payments require documentary explanation, and actual Japan-based art activity remains central.
No. Fees, withholding, adjustments and payment timing may produce different figures.
AI-assisted work is evaluated according to actual facts; there is no published AI-specific automatic Artist visa result. Explain the genuine human artistic work.
Rights issues require separate assessment. Do not misrepresent authorship or third-party license terms.
Not always. Independent Artist applications can rely on prescribed self-prepared activity and estimated-income documents.
Available genuine asset/catalog information, income statements, payout transfers and payment reconciliations are useful examples.
Artistic photography may be relevant, but ordinary commercial work may require another status depending on the principal activity.
Potentially. Explain the actual original work and each income stream clearly.
The official Artist document checklist does not set one universal annual royalty number. The application still needs credible ongoing remunerated art activity.
Relevant real art income and continuing activity may support extension, along with prescribed tax and other records.
Report actual published/sold assets accurately. Keep relevant correction or removal records if they materially affect the case.
