Part-time employment has its own application document category
The Immigration Services Agency classifies part-time applicants for Instructor status under category 3 for the relevant applications. More supporting documents can be required than for certain full-time teaching appointments.
A part-time title does not itself decide whether an activity qualifies. The school classification and teaching work must also fit the permitted scope.
What to prepare
Examples of arrangements
| Arrangement | Key issue |
|---|---|
| Part-time at one qualifying school | Relevant Category 3 supporting documentation |
| Part-time at several schools | All teaching activities, contracts and total hours |
| Mixed employment and service contracts | Legal and factual classification of each engagement |
| Part-time university teaching | Professor status may apply instead of Instructor |
Important points for employers and teachers
Documents for renewal
Application requirements can vary by document category and whether the applicant changed institutions. Contracts, evidence of activity and income or tax documents may be relevant.
Multiple service contracts
For some renewals, the Immigration Services Agency specifically requests copies of contracts with all institutions when work is based on non-employment contracts.
Teaching at universities
Teaching or research at universities and colleges of technology generally points toward the Professor status. Do not assume all part-time education comes under Instructor.
Payment and ability to maintain activities
A complete picture of assignments, compensation, continuity and living arrangements is more useful than relying on an unsupported minimum-hours claim.
Application process

Check school status, duties, immigration status and credentials.
